Abstract
We confirm along an analytical line the theoretical predictions which have recently been derived by Fedorov et al. (1996, J. Phys. B, 29, 2907) from their numerical model of interference stabilization of Rydberg atoms. A full agreement is found between the results of our analytical model and those of the above numerical model, concerning the efficiency of migration of population to higher-l Rydberg states, the dependence of time of ionization on laser intensity and the Fano q parameter, and the dependence of the yield of ionization on duration and fluence of the laser pulse.
