Abstract
The analysis focuses on the self-referential aspect of the novel Blue Lard byVladimir Sorokin. It is claimed that the eponymous blue lard may refer to literature,which is depicted in the novel as a space of freedom, and thus, supposedly, the only firmvalue in the face of the postmodern collapse of stable points of reference. The perceptionof literature as a self-limiting discourse could also be a subtle anthropological hint, enhancing self-reflectiveness and the ability of critical thinking
