Abstract
Infrared and proton magnetic resonance spectra of complexes of 4-R-pyridine N-oxides with trifluoroacetic acid have been investigated in rigorously dry benzene, chlorobenzene, 1,2-dichloroethane and chloroform. The results were correlated with ΔpKa and interpreted in terms of proton transfer effect. 50% proton transfer is found at ΔpKa = 1.68 ±0.05. The solvents used have no influence on 50% proton transfer. Solvent effect on chemical shift is discussed. © 1979.
