„Moja szara strefa powoli obejmuje poezję”. O autotematycznym charakterze Szarej strefy Tadeusza Różewicza

Abstract

Tadeusz Różewicz in the title poem from the volume “Gray Zone” writes: „moja szara strefa / powoli obejmuje poezję” (“my gray zone / slowly embraces poetry”) – the poet thus reflects on the text and the process of its creation. Throughout the volume, the author also reinterprets, or rather deconstructs, the literary tradition, referring to the works of other poets (among others Mickiewicz, Słowacki or Norwid), however, in a special way turns to his own works, as evidenced by repeatedly appearing metacomments associated with the effort of creation, which, however, does not bring poetic perfection. The question about the purpose and role of literature connected in this case with doubt in the reference function of the word and the possibility of representation in art is also extremely important. Różewicz’s works, although for the most part they are not a precise example of autothemacism [autotematyzm] in the understanding proposed by Artur Sandauer, undoubtedly have an autothematic character, which becomes one of the basic elements of the poet’s creative strategy. The aim of the article is an attempt to describe this phenomenon present in the volume “Gray Zone”, using the tools proposed by researchers dealing with issues related to autothematism and metaliteracy [metaliterackość].
