Młodość i starość w "Słowniku frazeologicznym" Henryka Gallego i Antoniego Krasnowolskiego

Abstract

Th e chapter is devoted to phraseology with components concerning youth and old age in the fi rst phraseological dictionary of the Polish language from the late nineteenth century. Th e authors use its extended fourth edition (1934). It turned out that more than 100 years ago, the lexical category HUMAN AGE was not a frequent component of phraseological relationships, which is also characteristic of modern phraseology. Among about 3300 entries of the studied dictionary, only 90 are names from this range, in addition they are components not only of idioms, phrases and proverbs, but also collocations. Relationships related to old age (51 units) prevail over those that relate to youth (35), while four are semantically related to both phases of life. In axio logical terms, the examined phraseology regarding old age mainly carries negative evaluation, and referring to youth are usually neutral, and rarely, equally or positively or negatively colored.
