Structural phase transitions of pyridinium tetrafluoroborate

Abstract
We performed Raman scattering measurements of lattice modes and powder neutron diffraction measurements to test the symmetry changes in pyridinium tetrafluoroborate (PyBF4) caused by the phase transitions at temperatures 240 and 205 K. From the powder diffraction data obtained we found out the sequence of phase transitions in PyBF4: R3̄m 240 K→ C2 240 K→ P2. The number of lattice modes found in the Raman scattering experiment is in agreement with the lowering of symmetry.
