Abstract
The humanistic discourse on the quality of education should take into account the context of sociocultural changes in the globalizing world, asking about the place of education in relation to culture, as a space for its transmission and transformation, which in fact boils down to a reflection on education “with” and “through” a book and social (i.e., “extra-literary”) meaning of the work. The author puts forward a thesis that every epoch leaves its own literary trace and thus treats literature as an objectivization of social behaviors and experiences. Writing about literature serves the purpose of transmitting and the reception of the content originating in the contemporary social configuration, but it also has its own social consequences. Identifying a literary work with tendencies in social life leads to a reflection on the condition of contemporary man. Embedding the book as a cultural feature in the network of social relations means a reflection on the knowledge, but also psychological predispositions, which can be reproduced in it taking as a reference the quality of sociocultural reality. A new view is emerging from the interdependence between globalization, literary work, and individual dispositions of individuals. One of the most important factors that influence the condition of contemporary man is education, the aim of which will be to shape pro-development and proactive orientation among children and youth. A book (a literary work as a mirror of the epoch reflecting reality) is thus the literature of the “times of global change” and promotes pro-development and proactivity as an orientation toward active participation in the processes of change.
