Abstract
IR, ESR, and XRD studies of MoO3MgF2 samples revealed the existence of two types of complexes on the surface of the MgF2 support, namely, isolated MoO3 tetrahedra and clusters of MoO6 octahedra of the MoO3 structure. Changes in the degree of hydroxylation of the magnesium fluoride surface after impregnation with molybdate ions were followed by IR spectroscopy. Determination of acid-base properties by means of probe molecules such as pyridine and acetic acid enabled the origin of the acid centres to be explained. The appearance of new acid-base and redox centers in MoO3MgF2 samples is responsible for their activity in many catalytic reactions. © 1988.
