Abstract
The performance of distinguishing fluorescence quenching kinetics based on the Smoluchowski-Collins-Kimball (SCK) treatment from those showing single-exponential decays for donors with lifetimes lower than 1 ns is examined. Experimental instrument response functions with FWHM = 35 ps and FWHM = 400 ps have been used to generate the decays. The results of these numerical experiments can be used by experimentalists to better plan experiments and to ensure the parameters, which they obtain from fitting fluorescence decay curves in the presence of quencher, are valid and not interdependent.
