Eigenvalue problem of a finite monoatomic linear chain with asymmetrical boundary conditions; surface states
Authors:
- Henryk Puszkarski
Abstract
The mathematical eigenproblem formalism specific to the problem of vibrations of a finite linear chain covers many problems of solid state theory, thus that of electron states and of phonon, exciton, magnon, etc. elementary crystal excitation states. Here, we present an exact and complete solution for quite arbitrary asymmetrical boundary conditions. The nature of the surface states and the conditions at which these states exist are discussed fully. © 1973.
