Abstract
In literary history published in Germany, separate chapters are rarely dedicated to the literature of the Swiss. Are there three different literatures in Switzerland corresponding to the three domi-nant languages there? Perhaps one should speak of the literature of Switzerland by differentiating between the four national languages (as opposed to the three dominant ones) because there are still texts written in Romansh. Nowadays, German-Language Swiss literature has become more prolific than other literatures in Switzerland. Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt are very well known on both sides of the Atlantic, and Swiss writers and poets who lived in distant epochs continue to be masters of the (German) pen today. This essay deals with Max Frisch’s triptych: Stiller (1954), Homo Faber (1957) and Mein Name sei Gantenbein (1964)
