Abstract

The analysis of the language material concerned chosen extracts from the Polish and Croatian language corps (IPI PAN and HrWac) of discontinuous language units with the verb component widzieć / vidjeti and wiedzieć / znati. The purpose of the analysis was to extract collocations. All the excerpted forms were subjected to formal and semantic analysis to verify the definition of belonging to a collocation class. Formal verification was carried out on the basis of comparing each extracted word relationship with the definition of the term collocation proposed by the author. As a basis for semantic verification, dictionary definitions of verbs were adopted, which were a component of the discontinuous units analyzed, and the verification itself consisted of checking whether or to what extent the verb component is desemanantized and becomes a synsemantic verb. During the analysis, it was shown that the chosen discontinuous units do not meet the definition of collocation, both formally and semantically, because repeatedly the verb is not desemanatized, and the meaning of the entire collocation is not the result of the meanings of its individual components.
