- The perception of the role of higher education institutions in society has changed in recent decades. A modern university should not only fulfill its main tasks, which are the education of students and scientific research, but also deepen its relations with the broadly understood social environment. In this context, there is a talk about the idea of university social responsibility, the essence of which is to implement the principles of ethics in all aspects of its functioning and comprehensive activities for the benefit of society. The aim of the article is to indicate that cooperation with business is a significant element of the activity of socially responsible universities. The article presents the idea of social responsibility as well as the related tasks of higher education institutions, with particular emphasis on those which concern building relations with business. Moreover, such issues as the third mission of the university and the triple helix model are described.
