Abstract
The influence of the basicity and acidity of faujasite-type zeolites on their catalytic activity in the H2S + SO2 reaction was investigated. The catalytic activity increases with the increase of the number of alumina-oxygen tetrahedra in the zeolite unit cell. Oxygen anions bound to aluminium cations in the zeolite framework play the role of catalytically active basic sites. Brönsted-type acidity retarded the catalyst activity. The poisoning of acid sites with pyridine causes the increase of the activity of zeolites and the blocking of basic centres causes the decrease of the catalytic activity. The influence of the electrostatic potential of the alkaline cations in the zeolite framework on the catalytic activity was observed. © 1984.
