Rosja w III części „Dziadów” Adama Mickiewicza w perspektywie ówczesnych rosyjskich koncepcji historiozoficzno-politycznych

Abstract

The portrayal of Russia in Dziady [‘Forefathers’ Eve’] Part III has been studied over the years by a number of scholars. Few have investigated, however, the connections between Mickiewicz’s vision and Russian historiosophical and political concepts of the late Enlightenment and the early nineteenth century, with the exception of Ryszard Przybylski, who considered this context in a non-systematic way. It cannot be doubted that Mickiewicz had an opportunity to become very familiar with these concepts during his stay in Russia, as he maintained close relations with many writers and thinkers, including those who would later, in the 1830s and 40s, develop the so-called ‘theory of official nationality,’ supporting the imperial policies of their state. The main point of reference for the portrayal of Russia in the drama and Ustęp [‘Digression’] is Russian thought,both republican (the Decembrists and their predecessors) and conservative(for instance inspired by Karamzin), the latter giving rise to the ‘official nationality’ concept. Within this article, Dziady can be understood as the author’s conscious attempt to engage in a mainly polemical dialogue with Russian philosophical trends of the time.
