Non-linear dielectric effects in solutions of o- and m-nitrotoluene in methylcyclohexane and 1,3-dimethylcyclohexane

Abstract
The non-linear dielectric effect (NDE) was studied in solutions of o- and m-nitrotoluene in methylcyclohexane and in 1,3-dimethylcyclohexane. We observed a precritical state in these solutions which was revealed by a characteristic anomalous increase in the NDE over a wide concentration range. Similar effects have been reported for solutions of o- and m-nitrotoluene in cycloalkanes and in m-nitrotoluene solutions in n-alkanes. The geometry of the solvent molecules was found to determine the concentration range within which the liquids show limited miscibility. © 1988.
