Achievements summary

I'm classicist, philosopher, psychologist, and psychotherapist. I defended my Ph.D. thesis about Plotinus in 2007 and have worked since then as assistant professor (adjuct) in the Institute of Classical Philology, Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology. In 2014 I obtained habilitation degree on the basis of the book Filozofia jako terapia w pismach Marka Aureliusza, Plotyna i Augustyna, Poznań 2014 (Philosophy as Therapy in the Works of Marcus Aurelius, Plotinus, and Augustine). Since 2017 I am associate professor. I'm interested primarily in spiritual exercises and contemplation in the Platonic tradition, especially Plotinus and Augustine. Another major field of my study is the medieval mystic Angela of Foligno and her Liber. Apart from that I have published works about spiritual exercises in Marcus Aurelius and about ancient tragedy and myth.

I have published two monographs (in English and Polish), three Polish translations with introduction and commentary (Angela, Augustine), and co-edited a monograph on Augustine's correspondence for Brepols (2017). I have been also publishing articles in such international journals as Phronesis, Hermes, Mnemosyne, International Journal of Philosophy and Theology, Augustinian Studies, Augustiniana, Vigiliae Christianae as well as in the major Polish ones (Eos, Kwartalnik Filozoficzny, Studia Philosophica Wratislaviensia). I published reviews in such journals as Bryn Mawr Classical Review, Augustiniana and Eos. I was invited to speak at the international symposium on Augustine's City of God in KU Leuven, 2018. I have also received invitations to speak at the Center for the Study of Platonism at the University of Cambridge (10/19/2020) and at the Boston Area Colloquium in Ancient Philosophy (academic year 2021/2022).

At my university, I've taught classes in Latin and Greek as well as in the history of ancient literature, religion, and culture, both in Polish and in English. I'm also interested in Baroque music and I organized concerts at the university, connected to conferences and other such events. I have private practice as a psychodynamic psychoterapist and supervisor (I'm a certified therapist of the Transference Focused Psychotherapy, in training for the Supervisor-Teacher of this method). I live in Poznań with my wife and two children, Weronika and Franek.
