Abstract

In the Christian account, the truth about God essentially impacts on the axiology related to worldview, religion, community and the Church. A specific attitude to this truth also shapes the vision of confessionality which distinguishes particular communities. Because confessionality generally encompasses the entire communal life, no matter how internally varied it is or in some cases how relatively open its is to common coexistence. This is evidenced by numerous dissensions which eventually occurred due to an ambition to dominate and confessional triumphalism. Today, however, ecumenical dynamism plays a special role. It develops in keeping with its own rhythm and ways in which particular Christian Churches interact with one another. It is worth emphasizing that because of a historically generated deep stratification of views and to an extent also of awareness, ecumenicity of a praxeological nature seems more effective than doctrinal ecumenicity. Practical ecumenicity triggers much forbearance, respect and a sense of Christian dignity. Thanks to this, particular interests seem to disappear from sight while a desire appears for mutual cooperation towards maintaining common values. Also kindness, openness and an attitude of love, all of which arise from religious beliefs, become much more pronounced. Essentially, the entire ecumenical attitude, similarly to the element of faith, is complex, ambiguous and erratic. This is so, because ecumenical attitude is a challenge in terms of knowledge, will and metanoia, and the challenge can only be taken up as a result of inner willingness.
