## Peripheral aberrometry by standard measurement methods

#### Abstract

The aim of the study was to measure the peripheral aberrations of the human eye's optical system in the field of view up to 2.5° from the fovea and to analyze the differences in the occurrence of aberrations depending on the refractive error. The study focuses on measuring monochromatic aberrations of the eye across the area of the field of view corresponding to the size of the macula and on comparing the occurrence of aberrations in myopic, emmetropic and hyperopic eyes. Optical aberrations of 37 right eyes were measured. 24 eyes were classified as myopic, 8 as emmetropic and 5 as hyperopic. Measurements were made using an OPTIKON Keratron Onda aberrometer. 35 measurements were taken for each examined eye: 5 measurements at the central point and 5 measurements at every of 6 peripheral points distant from the central point by 2.5° in 30°, 90°, 150°, 210°, 270° and 330° directions on the TABO scale. The measurements were carried out without the use of mydriatics. The aberration coefficients up to the 4th order of Zernike polynomials were analyzed. Statistically significant differences in the values of aberration coefficients were noted for the coma coefficient between the groups of myopic and hyperopic eyes. Significant differences were found in the values of aberration coefficients between the central point and peripheral points within each of the examined groups and significant differences in the change in the value of aberration coefficients between the central point and peripheral points between all groups in the examined area of field of view. The most statistically significant differences in the values of aberration coefficients between the central point and peripheral points were found in the group of myopic eyes, which may, however, be due to the size of the group that allowed to obtain representative results. Most statistically significant differences between the groups were found between the group of myopic and emmetropic eyes.
