Music activity and geometric skills of primary school students
Magdalena Andrys
Abstract
The dissertation "Musical activity and geometrical skills of primary school students" consists of five chapters. The first concerns the biological and educational foundations of human musical development. It presents the necessary facts and concepts for the following considerations. The next part, concerning artistic training and its impact on human cognitive processes, analyzes the results of research proving a positive correlation in this matter. The considerations also concern the issue of modern knowledge about the brain. The second chapter describes the characteristics and location of music education in the Polish education system, with particular emphasis on musical activity in the form of playing an instrument. This chapter has previously presented music in a socio-cultural context, as well as a brief analysis of its most important assumptions and functions. The third chapter revolves around mathematics, it describes the results of research on the impact of artistic training on the cognitive processes underlying mathematics. The research conducted under the supervision of Elizabeth Spelke was described because it was an inspiration to take up the topic of the dissertation. The fourth chapter presents the methodology of own research, the subject of which was musical activity and geometric skills, and the main goal was to determine the relationship between musical activity and geometric skills of students in grades 4-6 of primary school. In solving the main problem and specific problems, the method of pedagogical experiment using the technique of parallel groups was used, in addition to the experiment, the research also used the method of a diagnostic survey with the use of the questionnaire technique. The tools used in the research were: a test of geometric skills and questionnaires. The analysis of the research and the interpretation of the results are presented in the fifth chapter.- Record ID
