## The Concept of Permanent Formation of Diocesan Priests of The Priestly Society of the Holy Cross

### Marian Sikora

#### Abstract

In the teaching of the Church, starting from the II Vatican Council, we often find encouragement directed to diocesan priests, for them to deepen in their spiritual formation in priestly associations. This doctoral thesis indicates the possibility of diocesan priests to belong to the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross. This Association, inseparably joined to the Opus Dei Prelature, fits in to the life and work of individual dioceses. This dissertation consists of three parts. The first of them presents the history of the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross and a sketch of the legal itinerary of the Opus Dei Prelature. We also discover in it the priestly example of the life of St Josemaria Escriva. There is also mentioned here the existence of a specific vocation to Opus Dei and the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross. In the second part we analyse the features of the spirituality of Opus Dei. To these belong: awareness of divine filiation, sanctifying dimension of work and unity of life, freedom, obedience, detachment and christian virtues. In the last part there is a discussion about means of formation and the concrete spiritual input of the Association in the continuous formation of diocesan priests. Here the subject of the universal call to holiness and apostolate in the world is gone into more deeply. It is reminded that apostolate is not only a right, but also the duty of all the faithful and hence also of laypeople. Attention is drawn to the priority of supernatural means in the apostolate and also on the value of the apostolate of friendship and confidence. Attention is drawn to the apostolic formation in the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross.
