## Depiction of the March 1968 in Polish cinema

### Maciej Pietrzak

#### Abstract

The main subject of the research undertaken in the dissertation are the ways of telling about the events of March 1968 developed over the last five decades in Polish cinema. The analysed research material consists of both feature films and documentaries, in which events of March were central issue and those in which references to that time constitute only a side or episodic thread. An important context of my investigations are also references to the reception of individual works, which are an important complement to the main considerations. The principal part of the disquisition has been arranged in a diachronic system, in order to specify the changing tendencies occurring within the discussed problem at various periods of the history of Polish cinema. A comprehensive analysis of the achievements of Polish film in the field of telling about March '68 and its consequences will enable to indicate which narratives that create the cultural memory of that time occupy dominant positions in cinema, and which of them are marginalized or untold.
