The main aim of the dissertation is to show the evolution in position of EU and Schengen states in the approach to internal security in context of border protection system. It is truly important to identify why some Schengen states implement the Schengen acquis with different involvement although through removing border control on internal borders they take responsibility for security of the other members. What is important, this analysis is supposed to recognize the division of roles in the field of ensuring the internal security between EU and Schengen states. Due to the importance of states internal security problems, the shape of internal security of the whole European Union is connected with political vision and institutional capacity of single member states. The cooperation between Poland and Germany on common internal border is indicated here as an example of good cooperation based on the Schengen acquis. There is no doubt that freedom of movement is one of the greatest achievements of the European Union. On the other hand member states are responsible for ensuring internal security. Due to the direct connection between internal security and the security of the borders maintenance and further development of Schengen area is tied with development of international cooperation on the EU ground.- Record ID
