Holocaust discourse in the context of genology

Monika Siekańska

Abstract

The Holocaust as an unprecedented historical fact and a dramatic, individual human experience, requires transformation of hitherto prevailing philosophical and ethical notions, as well as creation of new, more efficient tools for historical, historiosophical and literary studies. Moreover, it is unwilling to fit into old forms of communication, reluctant to be expressed with the language rooted in traditional values, which are unceasingly questioned and thus their complete helplessness is exposed. Although the fact that the language is ingrained in the world of old virtues is undeniable and determining, still it is the only language providing the possibility for an attempt of expression. Thus, a dramatic disparity rises between the unprecedented, traumatic experience and the outdated language.
