Professional self-government in Poland in the process of systemic transformation

Abstract

Social and political changes that occured in Poland at the turn of 1980s and 1990s introduced the new development of self-government idea. A professional self-government plays a vital role in representing interests of particular social groups. Professional self-governments consist of professions which require the highest content-related qualifications as well as high morality to protect these professions. So far, fifteen regulations that make it possible to create professional self-governmnets have been accepted including: Attorney Association, Medical Association, Expert Auditor Association and Architect Association. The main aim of this thesis is to show the importance of a professional self-government in creating the principle of a democratic country that is based on citizens’ involvement. That is why, it is vital to answer the question: Does a professional self-government in Poland meet the expectations of people who are involved in it? Apart from a description of theoretical, historical and legal issues, a survey among the members of a professional self-government has been conducted.
