Agnieszka Woch-Juchacz

Abstract

The starting point of the present dissertation, is the discussion of convergences which indicate the importance of the image of higher education in society. The role and function of universities in the modern socio-cultural reality will also be considered. These issues seem to be of extreme importance, especially in the context of the Bologna Process of 1999, which was a starting point for crucial changes in the European education system. The purpose of the process is to create the European Higher Education Area by the year 2020. The thesis pays special attention to cultural functions of the image of higher education, its place in the post-modern culture and to the axiological role of science. The main goal of the study was to assess the current situation of higher education in relation to the Bologna Process, including quality assurance and European academic standards, which have recently been gaining wide attention. With this in mind, a research was conducted to find answers to the following questions relating to the main research point: what is the importance and the function of the image of higher education institutions, their traditions, symbols and brands? What is the shape of modern communication in the multimedia culture? What actions should higher education institutions take? What is the image of higher education in Poland? What is the interrelation between the idea of university and vocational education?
