Religious and Philosophical Contexts of Apocryphal Narrations in Modern Culture
Małgorzata Bogna Jankowska
Abstract
The dissertation is an analysis of literary and philosophical apocryphal narrations. The analysed material includes a few texts by Leszek Kołakowski and Andrzej Grzegorczyk and two novels – The Last Temptation of Christ by Nikos Kazantzakis and The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by José Saramago. The introduction to the subject is based on the definitions of the traditional apocrypha and narration (which is understood not only as a literary term, but as a philosophical idea as well). The dissertation presents different religious and philosophical contexts (like secularization, the conflict between reason and faith, the crisis of metaphysics, the fall of the so called Great Narrations) so that the role of the apocryphal narrations in modern culture could be properly described.- Record ID
