Abstract
The paper Between object and subject. Perception of slaughter, pedigree and stray Animals by breeders and caretakers may be placed in the field of interactions of people and other animals. It is based on long term participant observation within Tyree groups of people. The first group comprises pedigree cats breeders, the second – slaughter animal breeders, the last one - animal volunteers taking care of stray animals. An important part of the paper is the unit concerning philosophy of science, where the author contemplates the legitimacy of expanding the traditional humanities into non-human animals, which places the paper among posthumanism works. The study is based on the traditional philosophical concepts and Bruno Latour’s works and literature in the field of Science, Technology and Society (STS) with the aim to create an own, practice-based and open- ended methodology Equally important incentives were ethical question about nonhuman animal welfare in human society and freedom of scientific practice. The chapter on pedigree animals and their breeders revolves around beauty as a value determining the dual subject-object nature of pedigree cats. The subject concerning slaughter animal breeders focuses on people’s business activitythat abuse animal objects. Finally, the author presents Animals volunteers and casts light on the relations of care and power.- Record ID
