Abstract
The study focuses on showing the role of photography in history didactics. Its objective is to determine: 1.what role photography can play, taking into consideration its impact on the recipient ( student); 2.what role photography plays in history education and to what extent it is used. The following instruments were applied to achieve the objective: the analysis of subject literature, a questionnaire addressed to the students and teachers, and a didactic experiment involving presenting photographs during history classes and comparing information memorized by the students ( experimental groups) with those (control groups) who had covered the same history topics using no photographs. The study involved a group of 164 students aged 17-18 and 20 teachers of history. The analysis of subject literature and research results prove a significant and possible area of using photography in history didactics, and the desirability of its use as a source of historical information and aesthetic experience. Special attention must be paid to the teacher: his/her ability to select the photographs which are most adequate to presented topics and their capacity to manage students’ activity. Also, the study shows that there is a need to develop the use of photographs in teaching of history as a didactic means enhancing the effectiveness of teaching, regarding its multifunctional impact on the recipient.- Record ID
